SIGN AND IMPLEMENT FRAMEWORK AGREEMENT
For the grassroots communities who are directly affected by the
armed conflict in Mindanao, the “Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro” finally
brings them to the light at the end of a long dark tunnel. It is a reaffirmation of MPC’s
oft-repeated rallying cry, “peace is possible”.
According to Pastor Reu Montecillo, MPC Co-Chair from Kauswagan,
Lanao del Norte, “Information dissemination will play a very critical role
in generating support and acceptance of the Framework Agreement among Muslim,
Christian and Indigenous communities all over the country. I urge all religious leaders to
help explain and enlighten brethrens on the contents and substance of the
agreement”.
MPC calls upon all political leaders not only to express support
but also to provide avenues wherein people will be able to take an active part
in discussing and debating on the substance of the agreement. It is also very crucial that
this will be translated into major languages and dialects in order to promote
better understanding of the contents thereof.
As we face the political realities of the midterm election in
2013, MPC believes that the Framework Agreement should figure high in the
electoral agenda of the politicians from the national down to the local
elective positions. Considering the fact that this agreement
is in the nature of a political settlement, critical to its full implementation
and sustainability will be the unwavering support
and commitment of the political leaders in this country.
With the Framework Agreement finally achieved, it is time for all
of us to do our part in order ensure its full implementation. Let us all
unite in giving it a chance to be realized and implemented in letter and in
spirit. Let us also be vigilant in order to ensure that the 2008 debacle
of the MOA-AD never repeat itself. Today, more than ever, it is imperative upon
all Filipinos, especially Mindanaoans, to demonstrate our support and extend
the hands of solidarity to our Bangsamoro brothers and sisters as they finally
seize this golden opportunity to determine their own future and destiny.
